Splendours of the Goddess

Śrī · Devī · Rātri · Uṣas · Durgā · Araṇyānī · Nīḷā · Sarasvatī · Āpas · Bhūmi — ten hymns read as ten faces of one Goddess, and as one descent.

The Śrī Sūktam is the root hymn and the master key; the other nine are read against it, each taking one station of the aṣṭa-prakṛti — Mahat, Buddhi, Ahaṃkāra, Ākāśa, Vāyu, Tejas, Āpas, Pṛthvī — with Nīḷā as the unmanifest ground behind the whole descent. Read alongside the thousand names: the kula names of the Sahasranāma send the reader straight back to the Śrī Sūktam, and the fifteen phases and the sixteenth beyond them are the same Ṣoḍaśī in both books.

What fills this next

The frame is complete: ten hymns, every stanza titled and tagged to its Vedic location, every essay and seal in its place. The Śrī Sūktam’s first verse is set in full — verse, transliteration, translation, the approach, and one panel per Sanskrit word — and that is the pattern every other stanza takes.
